Club – Hayling Island

Results: 5th 2009 UK Nationals, 1st Grafham Open 2009, 1st Christmas Cracker 2009, 3rd Holt Tide Ride 2009  (In summary – Close but no cigar!)

Top Recorded Speed 25.1 knots

Profile: Ageing racer with past victories from before many current mothies were born but given new lease of life and enjoyment from the challenge, exhilaration and camaraderie of the Moth and its owners. I am totally addicted to, and passionate about, the boat but have realigned my expectations to take into account the ageing process but enjoy occasionally challenging/scaring the front runners.

Hi Ricky, just wanted to get you a quick message to apologise for our near miss on Saturday.
I was sailing the RS200 that hadn’t noticed you coming upwind at a fair rate of knots! I was sailing with my son in his first open (after only having sailed 5 weekends before) so the preferred option of crash gybing wasn’t really on the cards. I hope reaching up and getting across your bow (just) didn’t slow you too much and any swearing you heard was directed at myself for not noticing you sooner! Think it was only an “Oh, shittttt!” which probably covered the situation nicely :-) Not that you’ll remember, but many moons ago you kindly spared some of your time over on the IOW at the (then) National Sailing Centre where I was doing some 420 training. If we only knew then that we’d have to be prepared for windward boat situations then with closing speeds around 30 knots! :-) Best regards, Guy

Hi Ricky

Great picture!

I am a member of Itchenor and sail a Swallow ” Whimbrel ” no. 60.

Some say that you have helped with tuning these and other boats. If that is the case, look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards
